Course Descriptions

Anatomy:  We will be learning about the major systems of our amazing bodies.  We will learn about skeletons, nerves, muscles, blood, digestion, and more.  We will do experiments to understand how our eyes see, how our body digests fat, and how hard our hearts have to work to keep us alive.  A basic introduction to the amazingly fascinating human body.

Chess:  This class is for those who have a basic knowledge of the game and want to improve their chess skills by playing with others.  Players should register for the 7-8 year old chess class regardless

Children's Literature:  Read a children's book and do a craft or activity related to it every week.

Cooking:  Learn recipes from all around the world and a little about the countries they come from.  Students will need to contribute $1.00 towards supplies.

Creating Characters:  This class will be similar to Creating Characters in Writing, but will not require writing.  We will create characters through acting, talking, drawing, and some writing for those that would like to.

Creating Characters in Writing:  Write about people, real or fictional.  We will describe them, write about what they do, and try to make them come to life on the page.

Drawing:  Learn the elements of drawing and how to draw what you see.

Dinosaurs:  Learn a little about dinosaurs, what they ate and where they lived. See what they look like, then and now, and maybe do a little digging.

Introduction to Instruments:  We will be looking at, listening to, and playing instruments from many different instrument families and all parts of the world.  We will also learn a little about music history and share our own musical talents in class!!

Origami:  Learn how to make fun things like a jumping frog with just a piece of paper!

Physics:  Though major hands-on experiments you'll come to better understand what Physics is and how it affects your life. Each week we will explore one of the principles of Physics. We will also learn a little about some of the scientist of Physics like Galileo and Newton.

Science:  Simple science, 5 senses, plants and animals, doing fun experiments, and looking at things in a microscope.

Scrapbooking and Card Making:  We will learn some basic scrapbooking techniques, and scrap actual photos (that you'll need to bring). Once I have a class list, we can decide on some "themes" for photos to scrap, via email. We'll also learn fun techniques for interesting cards, i.e. pop-ups, a confetti "flinger," etc. We'll also be making a small holder to hold our cards. I'll supply papers, stamps, templates, etc, but each person will need to have a glue stick or two and a pair of scissors. If you have some other supplies you'd like to bring to use or share, that would be great, too!  Students will need to contribute $1.00 towards supplies

Speech:  Become comfortable speaking in front of people.

Under the Sea:

Who wouldn't be
Thrilled to see
All the things
"Under the Sea"?

Come with me,
Learn, be free!
Take the key
that unlocks the SEA!
