Minutes: December 9, 2004 Meeting
The meeting began at 7:30 p.m.
- Co-op Calendar
 |
Winter Session will begin on Tuesday January 11 and
end Tuesday March 1. |
 |
February 15 will be a Valentine's party at the end
of co-op with some sort of valentine exchange. The planning committee
for this party will be Dala Evans, Lisa Miller, April Hiatt, and Laura
Lee Needham. |
 |
The last day of Winter Session we will have a
Sharing Day. Each class will end 5 minutes early to give time for this,
where students can present or display what they have learned. |
 |
We will have a four-week break through the end of
March to prepare for Spring Session. |
 |
Spring Session will begin on Tuesday April 5 and
end Tuesday May 24. |
-
Co-op Start Time: Co-op will begin at 9:30
instead of 9:00.
-
Co-op Age Groups: We discussed the difficulties
of have so many children in the 5-7 age group with a wide span in maturity
level and comparatively large classes. I proposed three solutions to
the problem:
 |
Keep the age groups the same, but offer 4 classes
instead of 3 each period for the 5-7 age group. |
 |
Have a kindergarten class similar to the preschool,
and change the age groups to 6-7, 8-11, and 12 & up. |
 |
Change the age groups to 5-7, 7-10, and 11 & up. |
Discussion centered around which would help without
creating more problems. The kindergarten class seemed the most
difficult to pursue because we would need more teachers. Expanding the
oldest age group made the span of 11 & up quite large. We decided on
the first solution, to offer four classes to the 5-7 age group so that class
sizes would be smaller.
-
We discussed have a designated moms' room for their
hour off. We decided that moms generally socialize in the foyer or the
nursery, and we don't need a formal designation.
-
Classes for Winter Session: We decided on the
classes that we would offer in Winter Session based on a list of the classes
that mothers were willing to teach. For a list of the classes we
agreed upon, go to Class Schedule.
-
New co-op members: New families that wish to join
the co-op for Winter Session will not be required to teach a class.
This is so they can familiarize themselves with the way we do things.
-
Book Club: Amy Leonard will be forming a book
club for children at her home one afternoon a month. The first book
will be The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Children will be
able to take turns selecting the books, subject to the approval of the
mothers of involved families. Esther Swartz has offered to do a story
time at her house for younger children during the book club (she lives down
the street from Amy). The tentative first date for the book club is
January 20, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Amy Leonard. This will
probably be changed to Thursday February 3, 2004 at 1:30 because of a
conflict in one of the families.
-
WALDSFE Conference: We discussed the WALDSFE
conference and how we think it could be improved. The WALDSFE
conference is an annual homeschooling conference for LDS families in
Washington state. Amy Leonard will forward the information to Doreen
Blanding, president of WALDSFE.
The Meeting concluded at approximately 9:30 p.m.
